General Carlos Romulo Back To Menu

While attending New Mexico Military Institute, then Superintendent, General Hobart Gay, invited Phillipino General Carlos Romulo to speak to the Corps Of Cadets.

Another young cadet and I were given the privilege of spending a lengthy period of time with General Romulo. He told us many interesting stories and said that when it was announced the he had waded ashore, on Luzon, with General Douglas MacArthur, upon his return to the Philippines, a well known Phillipino patriot said, "The water must have been over Romulos head."

The three of us laughed because the General was less than 5 foot tall. General Romulo was the first President of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
